Foreigners applying for a visa at Polish Consulates must have travel medical insurance for the amount of not less than EUR 30,000 that is valid for the period of the foreigner's planned stay in Poland.

 

Foreigners applying for a residence permit in Poland must provide health insurance covering medical expenses of at least EUR 30,000 in the Department of Foreigners' Affairs of the Voivodeship Office.

 

After paying the insurance premium online, the policy will be immediately sent to the Policyholder's email in PDF format in Polish, English and Russian. The insurance must be printed and presented at Polish Consulates or Voivodeship Offices.

Can I apply for a visa with Wiener Medical expenses insurance?

Yes. Wiener Medical expense insurance meets all requirements for submitting documents for a visa with a minimum insurance amount of EUR 30,000. In some countries Consular departments require health insurance along with accident insurance and third party liability insurance. Wiener is present on the list of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a recommended Insurer that offers travel medical insurance in accordance with the requirements of Art. 25, Section 1, Paragraph 2, Point a and Section 1b of the Polish Act of 12 December 2013 on Foreigners.

 

What Wiener Health insurance is needed to obtain a temporary or permanent residence card in Poland?

Foreigners staying in Poland should have a health insurance, i.e. confirmation of medical expenses coverage by the insurer in the territory of the Republic of Poland (outpatient and hospital treatment). Departments of Foreigners' Affairs in Poland accept the Wiener insurance policy for foreigners in the amount of not less than EUR 30,000.

 

Can I use Health insurance for foreigners if I have a Polish permanent residence card?

No. According to the law, a foreigner who obtained a permanent residence card is obliged to be insured by the National Health Fund (NFZ) health insurance. If you have a Wiener medical expenses policy, the insurance contract becomes invalid once you obtain permanent residence card.

 

Can an EU citizen purchase Wiener Health insurance to register their stay in Poland?

Yes. If an EU citizen wants to continue stay in Poland (study, work, private stay) for more than 3 months, the stay should be registered. During registration, it is required to have a health insurance, i.e. confirmation of medical expenses coverage by the insurer in the territory of the Republic of Poland.

 

Can an EU citizen purchase Wiener Health insurance in order to apply for an EU long-term resident's permit?

Yes. An EU citizen who has been residing in the territory of the Republic of Poland legally and continuously for at least 5 years may apply for an EU long-term resident's permit. When submitting an application, it is required to have a health insurance, i.e. confirmation of medical expenses coverage by the insurer in the territory of the Republic of Poland.

 

What is an accident?

An accident is a sudden incident caused by an external cause, which causes the insured person, regardless of his or her will, to suffer bodily injury or health impairment or die. Accident insurance also covers the first stroke and the first heart attack.

 

What does Accident insurance cover?

The protection includes benefits arising from health damage, death, medical expenses for an accident, i.e. costs of medical appointments, hospital stay and treatment, operations, diagnostic tests, outpatient analyses, purchase of medicaments, infusion fluids or dressing aids, transport to hospital or outpatient clinic.

 

What is third party liability in private life?

Third party liability is liability for a violation of a legal norm that caused damage as a result of a delict (e.g. walking a dog that was not muzzled, without a leash and bit a passer-by). The insurer is liable for personal injury (health impairment or death) and property damage (e.g. flooding regardless of fault) caused to third party unintentionally and due to gross negligence.

 

What does Third party liability insurance in private life cover?

The protection covers third party liability of the Insured and persons for whom Insured is legally responsible, e.g. a child of whom the Insured takes care for (pursuant to Art. 426 of the Polish Civil Code, a minor until the age of 13 is not liable for the damage he or she caused; the adult under whose care the minor is staying may be held liable if there was any fault connected with exercising supervision over the minor).

 

What private life activities are covered by Third party liability insurance?

  • you take care of children or persons who cannot have the blame attributed to them due to their age or mental or physical condition;

  • you have pets or take care of them;

  • you practice sport as an amateur or you have equipment to practice it;

  • you use bicycles, personal transport vehicles, wheelchairs, strollers;

  • you pilot drones for open category flights (in accordance with EU regulations) and flying models weighing up to 5 kg for recreational purposes, in accordance with aviation law;

  • you rent real estate on a short-term basis for a continuous stay of up to 30 days, e.g. houses, apartments or guest or hotel rooms.

 

Does Wiener Health insurance cover treatment for chronic diseases?

Yes. The insurance covers doctor's appointments or diagnostic tests; costs of diagnosis and outpatient procedures; costs of hospital treatment and surgical operations in connection with the exacerbation of a chronic disease when the disease is diagnosed before concluding the insurance contract. The chronic disease has a long-term course, usually lasts for months or years (also with periods exacerbation or remission) and is treated continuously or periodically.

 

Does Wiener Health insurance cover practicing sports as an amateur?

Yes. Practicing sports as an amateur signifies physical activity for recreation and biological regeneration, including the following winter and water sports:

  • skiing, snowboarding, tobogganing on downhill routes designated for that purpose;

  • skating, playing ice hockey on ice rinks prepared for that purpose;

  • ice boating, mountain kayaking, surfing, rowing, sailing, kitesurfing, diving using breathing apparatus and sport scuba diving, freediving, wakeboarding, mountain canoeing, rafting, water skiing.

 

What types of activities belong to physical work?

Performing physical work is considered by Wiener as a work with an increased risk of harm, i.e.:

  • in construction – including at heights;

  • in mining and quarrying – including underground;

  • in shipbuilding – while building and repairing ships;

  • diving and underwater activities;

  • using equipment such as cranes, machine tools, road construction and pneumatic machines;

  • work involving the use of lacquers, liquid fuels, gases, liquids and industrial oils;

  • work involving high voltage equipment;

  • work involving explosive, radioactive and chemical materials;

  • work as a work rider and horse trainer;

  • in the oil industry (oil platforms, drilling rigs, fuel storages, gas stations);

  • in mountain and water rescue services;

  • as an acrobat, animal tamer or other circus professions.

 

What is meant by professional sports?

Professional sports are practiced under affiliation to sports clubs, associations and sports organizations and involve participation in competitions, events or training camps.

 

What is meant by high-risk sports?

High-risk sports are abseiling (rappelling), mountain climbing, caving, hot-air ballooning, bobsleighing, bouldering, bungee jumping, BASE jumping, downhill mountain biking, heliskiing, heliboarding, cycling in obstacle-filled terrain (moguls, jump ramps) or on specially prepared routes (excluding urban and tourist bicycle paths), kite-boarding, kite-skiing, snow kiting, hunting, paragliding, parkour, rugby, parachuting, speleology, air sports, water motorsports practiced in sport sections, gliding, climbing, indoor climbing, ice climbing, high altitude mountaineering, professional skiing and snowboarding outside designated routes, expeditions to places with extreme climate or natural conditions, expeditions to mountain or highland areas at an altitude of over 5,500 metres above sea level.

 

What does insurance of travel luggage or sports equipment cover?

Coverage is provided for accidents involving loss (e.g., leaving in a vehicle), destruction or damage to luggage or equipment during transport, storage or use while travelling due to a catastrophe or accident of a means of transportation, personal accident, burglary of locked premises, loss of luggage or equipment placed for safekeeping (e.g., in an individual place for luggage in a hotel or train station), robbery, random events.
